While they sometimes feel like a pain in the braking foot, stop signs do serve a purpose on San Fernando Valley roadways. Without stop signs, Southern California would likely see an even greater number of pedestrian accidents, car accident, and bicycle accidents each year. This does not mean that all stop signs are properly located and easily identifiable. Indeed, a stop sign obscured by an overgrown tree can lead to auto accidents. It is a known fact that the condition of the road can and do cause a large number of accidents throughout Woodland Hills. While organizations like FHWA are taking steps to make our roadways safer, many of our roads and highways are still a work in progress. Sometimes the signs (stop, yield, right turn only, etc…) designed to protect us are the ones that cause our injuries.
Traffic lights and signs causing accidents? How is this possible? Malfunctioning traffic lights, for example, are the culprit of a surprisingly large amount of auto accidents. A “no left turn” sign covered in graffiti and therefore unreadable can lead to cars pulling out into oncoming traffic, causing unsafe conditions for the rest of the drivers on the road. These are just a few examples of how important it is that our road signs are properly maintained.
Sometimes, reckless and/or impatient drivers choose to purposely run a stop sign. This is very dangerous behavior and causes thousands of car accidents each year. In fact, a recent report by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System showed that there were over 13,000 cars involved in fatal automobile accidents caused by running a stop sign.
As you can see, auto accidents are caused by a number of different factors. Whether it’s a degrading stop sign that the city has failed to repair, or the impatience of a negligent driver that leads to a horrific accident, auto accidents are generally frustrating and frightening. In many cases, the party at fault is unwilling to take responsibility for the accident and you are forced to fight with insurance companies to obtain the financial recovery that you rightfully deserve. Or many you are dealing with a City that refuses to acknowledge that it has created an unsafe or negligent situation that led to you or your loved one suffering injuries in a car accident.
