How does lane splitting laws affect accident claims in California? Well, first of all, lane splitting is permitted in California on motorcycle cases. And in fact, most accidents I see involving motorcycles involve lane splitting. The only thing that you need to understand is that it doesn’t give the motorcyclist the right to drive dangerously. And as a motorcyclist, you always want to make sure that other cars are aware that you’re present for as a driver, the driver needs to be aware of all vehicles around it, including motorcycles and the possibility of motorcycles lane splitting. So, it’s still a question of um awareness uh being visible and driving safely. So, any kind of sudden lane change, things like that, um you could be hitting a a motorcyclist that’s legally allowed to lane split.
